It's a relieve to hear that GCT will be around for a few years and is supported by many organizations. I can confirm that here at RWTH Aachen University there are multiple institutes that rely on MyProxy and Globus Toolkit for X.509 authentication with HTCondor
and XRootD. We're not using GridFTP though.<br>

<div>The GCT is the fruit of an ad-hoc collaboration between several parties</div>
<div>that have a continued need for Globus middleware in the next few years:</div>
<div>OSG, EGI, NorduGrid, CERN and maybe others still.</div>

<div>There is no formal agreement between any of these parties,</div>
<div>but you can be fairly confident we will keep this going for a few years,</div>
<div>while alternative solutions are being developed and integrated steadily</div>
<div>in the activities of each stakeholder. For example, using XRootD and/or</div>
<div>HTTP for file transfers, instead of GridFTP. That is looking good already,</div>
<div>but we may still need a few years to be able to stop using the latter.</div>
<div>There also is GSI: new AuthN/AuthZ paradigms are being investigated,</div>
<div>but we may need to rely on X509 + GSI in various places even longer...<br>
